Granada and Real Betis set for La Liga stalemate

The new La Liga season has not been kind to either Granada or Real Betis. The two teams are yet to win in 2021-22 and on Monday, meet at the Nuevo Estadio de Los Cármenes.

Granada have taken two points from nine this season courtesy of two draws. Los Rojiblancos are coming off of a 4-0 loss to newly-promoted Rayo Vallecano on matchday 3 of the La Liga season. It was not the result the club hoped for nor many onlookers expected.

Real Betis have also taken two points from nine possible. Los Verdiblancos drew back-to-back games to start the season, but fell to defeat against Real Madrid, 1-0, last time out.

Manuel Pellegrini’s team may have one eye on Thursday night’s Europa League group game against Celtic. Los Verdiblancos qualified for the Europa League in 2020-21 and based on the team’s early performances in La Liga, it could be distracting.

The home team is unbeaten in nine straight games in all competitions between Granada and Real Betis. Last season, Granada bagged a 2-0 win at home versus Real Betis thanks to two goals from Roberto Soldado. One of those strikes came from the penalty spot.

Granada manager Roberto Moreno needs the team to find their goalscoring boots. Just one goal has been scored in three La Liga games. Luis Javier Suarez tallied Granada’s lone goal of the campaign. Meanwhile, Granada’s defence has conceded five times.

One of Granada’s two draws this season came at the Nuevo Estadio de Los Cármenes. Playing in front of home supporters on Monday night could greatly benefit Moreno’s team.

Real Betis are –1 in goal difference with two goals scored and three against. One of those two goals came from an own goal while Juanmi notched the other. Los Verdiblancos took one of their two points on the road. They claimed a 1-1 draw at Mallorca.

Moreno has one player on the Granada injury list. Defender Neyder Lozano is out for the time being due to a skull fracture. Pellegrini has two players in the treatment room, but both could return to action on Monday.

Forward Diego Lainz is nearly back from a sprain knee. Defender Youssouf Sabaly has a muscle strain that is nearly healed. Having both players back could significantly upgrade Real Betis.

Monday’s game is likely to be a close cagey game in a league that sees a lot of draws. Thirteen of La Liga’s 30 games played through matchday 3 finished in draws.

Granada and Real Betis should play out a low scoring stalemate with under 2.5 goals scored. Goalscoring will remain a problem for both teams.
