Lyon finally picked up their first win of the new Ligue 1 season just before the international break with a 1-0 win away from home at Nantes.
The hosts return to their Groupama Stadium for this Sunday’s encounter against Strasbourg looking to gain their home win of the season.
Lyon had previously made a slow and sluggish start to their new Ligue 1 campaign following points picked up in draws with Brest and Clermont (both at home) while also being handed a heavy 3-0 loss away at Angers.
That recent win against Nantes though could well see Lyon click into gear as they look to lift themselves further up the French top flight table, starting on Sunday evening against Strasbourg.
Lyon have struggled for consistency on home soil for some time now in the domestic top flight but they have held the upper hand in previous exchanges against Strasbourg as the hosts are unbeaten in each of their previous five meetings and they’ll be keen to extend this sequence on Sunday.
Onto Strasbourg and the visitors climbed up into 13th place following a 3-1 home win against Brest before the international break and they’ll be looking to make it back-to-back wins at the Groupama Stadium on Sunday evening.
However, this could be easier said than done as Strasbourg have managed to collect just two wins out of their last 11 matches overall in the French top flight, a sequence of results which also include five defeats as well.
Strasbourg’s results away from home have also been fairly inconsistent as the visitors have claimed just three wins from their previous 10 games on their travels with wins collected at Metz, Bordeaux and Nice but their inability to keep clean sheets may well hold them back again at Lyon this Sunday.
The visitors have managed to keep just one clean sheet in their last 10 away games and as they’ve struggled to beat Lyon in previous exchanges and also being in their own backyard this Sunday, this could be a tough evening at the office for the visitors.
Lyon have plenty of incentive to grab the three points here this Sunday as another win for the hosts could see them make a dramatic climb up into 3rd place depending upon other results.
