Not Much to Separate Honduras and the USA in World Cup Qualifying
2117

Honduras and the United States of America will clash in one of the most important World Cup Qualifiers matches in North America so far as the two have started in torrid form with just points on the board each to this point.

The USA come into this one having drawn with Canada and El Salvador, with the latter game seeing no goals scored at all.

At the same time, the Americans were expected to win both of these games and how they haven’t will no doubt worry the country ahead of Qatar 2022.

In that last game against Canada, Brenden Aaronson scored for his nation in what was a pretty dominant display by the USA, as they delivered 11 shots throughout the game and controlled 72% of the possession.

Although this game isn’t necessarily a must-win right now as there is a long way to go, a defeat for Gregg Berhalter’s men and failure to then qualify for a second consecutive World Cup would be utterly disastrous for a country that now has a bit of talent to boast about.

Getting past Honduras won’t be easy, however, and despite their two draws also seeing them slumped in mid-table of this World Cup Qualifiers group, they have exactly the same form coming into this one with Alexander Lopez getting their only goal so far.

Honduras also looked relatively decent in the Gold Cup not too long ago, with a 3-0 defeat over Mexico in the quarter-finals eventually being the turning point for them. On the other hand, the USA won the Gold Cup, with a Miles Robinson goal beating Mexico in the final.

There are still 12 games left to go in this final round of qualifying for the 2022 World Cup and the USA are expected to get there and be in Qatar next year. Not quite the same can be said for Honduras, who haven’t been at the World Cup since losing all three games of the Brazil 2014 group stages, which in itself was a push.

This is going to be a bit of a crazy final round of qualifying because as of right now, the USA have lost form and Mexico and Panama have taken an early lead at the top. With this said, Forebet expects a game of under 2.5 goals and a draw, as nothing really separates Honduras and the USA right now.

It should be a close one, and neither side looks set to get their group stage up and running in this one.
