Poland ready for visit of England as WCQ Group I intensifies

Fresh from securing back-to-back 4-0 victories, England will be looking to extend their lead at the top of Group I when they visit Poland in World Cup qualifying on Wednesday.

Gareth Southgate’s side sit five points clear at the Group I summit, having claimed maximum points from their opening five qualifiers.

Meanwhile, Poland find themselves second – five points behind England – having taken ten points from a possible 15.

After failing to make it out of their group at Euro 2020, Poland returned to action with a 4-1 victory over Albania last week.

Poland then hammered Group I minnows San Marino 7-1 on Sunday, with New England Revolution forward Adam Buksa netting a hat-trick.

You probably won’t be surprised to learn that Robert Lewandowski bagged a brace, too, meaning he has now scored six goals in his last four international appearances.

Poland head into Wednesday’s clash having won just three of their 12 matches in all competitions, recording four draws and five losses in that time.

Although they picked up easy wins over Albania and San Marino, they will find it far more difficult to get the better of England.

As we know, England made it all the way to the Euro 2020 final, only to fall to Italy on penalties at the last hurdle.

Since then, however, the Three Lions have showed everyone exactly why they reached the final back in July.

Southgate’s men thrashed Hungary 4-0 last week, racking up 12 shots while enjoying 65% possession in front of an intimidating Budapest crowd.

On Sunday, they saw a whopping 89% of the ball as they dispatched Andorra by the same scoreline. Jesse Lingard bagged a brace, while Harry Kane and Bukayo Saka also scored.

England’s sole loss in their previous 15 matches came to Italy in the Euro 2020. Other than that, they have claimed 13 wins and one draw in that time.

Each of England’s last six games have produced over 1.5 goals, too, with three of those matches dishing up over 3.5 goals.

Head-to-head: Poland have only managed to beat England once in 20 attempts over the years – and that victory came all the way back in 1973!

The Three Lions beat Poland 2-1 at Wembley in the reverse fixture back in March, meaning they have won eight of their past ten meetings with Poland.

Team news: Adam Buksa is likely to partner Robert Lewandowski in Poland’s forward line after coming off the bench to net a hat-trick at the weekend.

Having made 11 changes for the visit of Andorra, Gareth Southgate is set to revert back to his favored starting XI for the trip to Poland.

Although England cruised past Hungary and Andorra, they could struggle to deal with Lewandowski and co. in Poland.

Forebet predicts that both teams will score on Wednesday. However, Poland could claim a slender win.
