Netherlands set for high-scoring victory over Montenegro

The Netherlands and Montenegro are locked on seven points in Group G as they prepare to face off at Eindhoven’s Philips Stadion on Saturday.
In the hunt for a spot at next year’s FIFA World Cup in Qatar, first-place Turkey sit one point clear of both the Netherlands and Montenegro in Group G.
With fourth-place Norway also on seven points, both these sides will be eager to pick up a win this weekend and move up the standings.
The Netherlands were held to a 1-1 draw by Norway on Wednesday, despite enjoying 66% possession and racking up 17 shots to Norway’s seven.
Erling Haaland gave Norway the lead after 20 minutes in midweek, before Davy Klaassen earned his side a point.
As a result, the Netherlands have only lost one of their previous nine matches in all competitions – recording six wins and two draws along the way.
Their last defeat came at the hands of the Czech Republic as they bowed out of Euro 2020 in the round of 16.

Meanwhile, Montenegro came from two goals down to rescue an impressive 2-2 draw with Turkey on Wednesday.
Despite seeing just 39% possession, they were able to cancel out two early goals, with Risto Radunovic netting a 97th-minute equaliser.
Wednesday’s draw with Turkey means that Montenegro have failed to win any of their previous four games in all competitions, registering two draws and two losses.
In fact, they have only managed to win three of their last ten outings in all competitions, so they could struggle to deal with the Netherlands’ firepower.
Head-to-head: The Netherlands and Montenegro have faced each other three times over the years, with the Dutch winning twice and Montenegro winning once.
The three meetings have produced a combined total of 12 goals, averaging four goals per game. The previous meetings in 2019 ended in a 3-0 win for the Dutch.
Team news: Denzel Dumfries and Donyell Malen will both be pushing for a start after coming off the bench for the Netherlands in midweek.
As for Montenegro, top goalscorer Stevan Jovetic is injured, while Esteban Saveljich refused the opportunity to team up with the squad.
Considering the Netherlands’ recent series of high-scoring matches, a big home win is on the cards this weekend.
