Salzburg to take the honours at Brondby
4743

The 2nd legs of the play-offs in the Champions League continue on Wednesday night and features this upcoming clash between Danish hosts, Brondby, and their Austrian visitors, Salzburg, with Brondby looking to overturn a 2-1 defeat in this return leg.

Brondby return to the more familiar surroundings of their Brondby Stadion but the hosts look far from convincing right now as they look to overturn the one-goal deficit following last week’s 2-1 defeat in Austria, as the hosts have failed to win any of their last nine matches in all competitions.

Six draws and three defeats perhaps underline the reason for Brondby’s slow and sluggish start not only to their domestic Superliga season but also last week’s defeat in the 1st leg.

Brondby are still searching for their first win on the domestic front and currently occupy a bottom half position in the Superliga while in the Champions League, Brondby have managed to win just six of their 13 ties overall to date.

At home, that’s just three from their last six ties at the Brondby Stadion.

Onto Salzburg, and the Austrian visitors know that they’re just 90 minutes away from booking their place in the lucrative group stage of this competition and having won their last nine matches on the trot in all competitions, the visitors will be in confident mood here.

Five league wins on the trot in the Austrian Bundesliga have been further complemented by a domestic cup win over Hertha in a 4-1 romp away from home along with last week’s 2-1 home win over Wednesday night’s hosts, Brondby, at their Red Bull Arena.

Results away from home have also been impressive as Salzburg have won their last seven away games on the trot and indeed, have suffered just one defeat on their travels from their previous 11 matches overall on the road.

Salzburg also possess greater experience and exposure at Champions League level than their Danish counterparts and although they struggled in their respective group last season, they still reached the group stage proper and recorded away wins at Maccabi Tel Aviv and Lokomotiv Moscow.

The bigger picture shows that Salzburg have lost just three of their last 14 away ties in the Champions League and they should have enough about them to finish the job at Brondby on Wednesday night.
