Brentford had a dream start to the Premier League season defeating Arsenal 2-0 at home. Now, the Bees aim to sting Crytal Palace on Saturday at Selhurst Park.
The Patrick Vieira era did not get off to a good start at Crystal Palace. The Eagles, who are rebuilding after Roy Hodgson’s departure in the summer, were thoroughly beaten 3-0 by Champions League winners Chelsea.
There is a fear that a poor run of form to start the campaign for Crystal Palace could see Vieira sacked quickly.
In 2017, Crystal Palace hired Frank De Boer to alter the team’s playing style, but after a terrible run to begin the season, sacked him and hired Hodgson.
There is no recent league history between these clubs. The only matches between them over the last 20 years came in friendlies.
In 2010 and 2014, Crystal Palace and Brentford played in exhibition matches with the Bees claiming a 1-1 draw and 3-2 win.
Saturday’s game will be the second London Derby for both clubs. New released on Brentford’s official website states that the Bees will have a full away end of supporters cheering them on.
If Brentford can win against Crystal Palace, their path to Premier League survival will have its foundation.
Forty points is often the mark managers set out to achieve safety. In 2020-21, 29 point was good enough for safety as Fulham finished 18th with just 28 points from the campaign.
Brentford signed goalkeeper Alvaro Fernandez on loan this week from Spain’s Huesca. He will offer competition to Brentford’s No. 1 David Raya.
After losing 3-0 to Chelsea, Crystal Palace are searching for a goalscorer. The Eagles are linked with Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard, who seems desperate to finally leave Celtic Park.
Crystal Palace could turn to Liverpool for striker Divock Origi to solve their goalscoring issues. The Reds are ready to cash-in on Origi after a poor season in 2020-21. Watford’s Will Hughes is also a target for the Eagles.
Thomas Frank has three Brentford players on the injury list. Defender Kristoffer Ajer is a doubt due to a foot/ankle injury. Josh Dasilva is ruled out and claims have been made he will miss the entire campaign. Mathias Jensen is also ruled out.
Vieira has four names on the injury list going into the match. Michael Olise, Eberechi Eze, Luka Milivojevic, and Nathan Ferguson are all ruled out of action. Those four players are a significant loss for Vieira.
Brentford should keep the good times rolling with a second straight win in the Premier League. The Bees could post a second straight win to nil with under 2.5 goals being scored.
Ivan Toney could get on the scoresheet after bullying Arsenal’s defence last weekend.
