Real Madrid to take the spoils at Levante

This weekend’s La Liga action continues on Sunday and features the upcoming clash between Levante and Real Madrid at the Estadio Ciudad de Valencia in what will be Levante’s opening home match of the new La Liga season.

Levante finished last season’s Spanish top flight campaign in the bottom half of the division in 14th place having failed to win any of their last eight matches of the last term, which included five defeats, so the hosts will be keen to produce a better showing this time around.

Sunday’s hosts suffered defeats against Villarreal, Sevilla, Elche, Celta Vigo and Getafe to end their season on a disappointing note, while the bigger picture shows that Levante captured just one win from their final 12 games of the season as well.

Levante have also won just one of their last 11 matches on home turf at their Estadio Ciudad de Valencia which came in the form of a 1-0 victory over Valencia, but too many draws (6) and defeats (4), continually held them back, and their last meeting at home against Real Madrid ended in a 2-0 defeat for the hosts.

Real Madrid started their new La Liga campaign in devastating fashion as the visitors recorded a 4-1 thrashing of Deportivo Alaves in last weekend’s season-opener away from home

Although they’ll hit the road again for this Sunday’s clash at Levante, this shouldn’t faze Carlo Ancelotti’s side.

That resounding win at Alaves became Real Madrid’s fourth win on the trot in La Liga and followed on from the end of last season where the visitors finished their campaign off with wins against Granada, Athletic Bilbao and Villarreal respectively.

Although Real Madrid ultimately missed out on claiming the Spanish top flight title (ending up just two points shy of crosstown rivals, Atletico Madrid), Real Madrid nevertheless finished last season in strong fashion as they were unbeaten in their final 18 matches overall.

Ironically, they had suffered a 2-1 defeat at home to Sunday’s opponents, Levante, immediately before embarking on this solid sequence of results and the visitors will be keen to avenge that defeat on Sunday evening at the Estadio Ciudad de Valencia.

Levante are expected to reside in the lower half of La Liga again this term while Real Madrid will be seeking a fifth league win on the trot here.
