Nothing to Choose Between the Teams as Slavia Prague and Legia Warsaw Meet in Europa League Qualifying

This season, thanks to the introduction of the Europa Conference League, we have only two rounds of qualifying for the Europa League and we have reached the final, playoff stage.

On Thursday the 19th of August we have a meeting between Slavia Prague and Legia Warsaw as both clubs aim to qualify for the group stages of the Europa League this season.

Slavia Prague coming to the match having defeated Mladá Boleslav 2-0 away from home in the Czech Liga on the weekend.

It was the third league match of the season for Slavia Prague and they maintained their 100% record thanks to goals in the 36th and 83rd minute of the game.

Slavia Prague have played 5 competitive matches this season, two of which have come in European competition as they faced Ferencvaros in the third qualifying round of the Champions League.

However, Slavia Prague lost the first leg, 2-0 away from home and despite winning the second leg, 1-0 at home, it was not enough to remain in the hunt for the Champions League group stages.

The only good thing from their point of view is the success they tasted in the Europa League last season. Slavia Prague reached the quarterfinal stage of the competition but having held English Premier League club Arsenal to a 1-1 draw in London, the home leg turned out to be a massive disappointment and Slavia Prague lost the game 4-0.

Legia Warsaw recorded a victory in the Polish topflight on the weekend as they defeated Warta Poznań 2-0 away from home.

The goals came either side of half-time and it was an important win for Legia Warsaw, who have already dropped points at the start of the season thanks to a 3-1 loss at Radomiak Radom.

Like their opponents, Legia Warsaw started their European campaign this season in the qualifying rounds of the Champions league.

They defeated Bodø/Glimt 5-2 over two legs in the first qualifying round and beat Flora 3-1 in the second qualifying round, winning both legs of the tie.

However, having picked up a good 1-1 draw at Dinamo Zagreb in the third qualifying round, Legia Warsaw lost 1-0 at home to miss out on the Champions League playoffs.

Legia Warsaw played in the Europa League play offs in 2020 but were eliminated from the competition thanks to a 3-0 home defeat at the hands of Qarabag.

Looking ahead to the team news and Slavia Prague will be looking towards Ivan Schranz and Jan Kuchta for goals as both players have made a good start to the season. Toma Holeš and Luka Masopust are key players in midfield.

Legia Warsaw can call upon the experienced Artur Boruc in goal and Toma Pekhart in attack, the latter of which will be playing against his fellow countrymen and former club.

We expect this to be an extremely close game, with neither team giving much away in defence. A 0-0 draw would not be the end of the world for either team and that makes under 2.5 goals a good prediction for this match.
