Marseille seek back-to-back wins when Bordeaux visit

Marseille will be seeking to collect a fourth win on the trot in all competitions on Sunday evening when they play host to Bordeaux at their Orange Vélodrome as the hosts look to build upon their encouraging start to this new Ligue 1 campaign.

Marseille registered a 3-2 win away from home at Montpellier on the weekend and the manner of their victory will have pleased manager, Jorge Sampaoli, as his side fell 2-0 behind before staging a dramatic comeback midway through the second half to win 3-2.

Midfielder, Dmitri Payet, was instrumental in conducting Marseille’s impressive recovery and having recently recorded pre-season wins against Saint-Etienne (away).

Spanish La Liga club, Villarreal, (at home), the hosts will be in confident mood for this weekend’s fixture.

On the Ligue 1 front, Marseille have suffered just one defeat out of their last nine games overall which was away from home at Saint-Etienne, but five wins within this period suggests Marseille stand a decent chance of adding to their points tally here.

Goalkeeper Lopez, defender Caleta-Car and forward Milik will be missing through injuries.

Bordeaux finished last season in a disappointing 12th place on the Ligue 1 ladder despite winning three of their final four matches of last season which included wins against Rennes, Lens and Reims, but six defeats in their final nine games of the season underlined their inconsistent nature.

The visitors have also made a losing start to this new Ligue 1 season as well, receiving a 2-0 defeat at home to newcomers, Clermont Foot, so this upcoming trip to Marseille looks to be a tough one for Bordeaux, especially as their form away from home has been pretty poor.

Bordeaux have lost seven of their last nine games on the road in the French top flight with only wins at Dijon and Reims the only highlights for the visitors since mid-January, while goals have been leaked at the back on a regular basis as well.

Seven of Bordeaux’s last nine away games have also seen the visitors ship 2 goals or more and this doesn’t appear to bode well for this upcoming fixture against Marseille, especially as the hosts recorded a convincing 3-1 win in their last meeting at the Orange Velodrome.
