Real Madrid to take the spoils at Alaves on opening day

This weekend sees the start of the new Spanish La Liga season and features this upcoming clash between Deportivo Alaves and Real Madrid at the Estadio de Mendizorroza on Saturday evening.

Deportivo Alaves just about survived last season in La Liga as the hosts finished two leafgue places and four points above the relegation zone and they’ll be hoping that they can perhaps produce a better showing this time around and avoid any last minute dramas.

Realistically, Alaves will be looking to take points off the teams around them in the division while this upcoming fixture against Real Madrid poses a threat to their opening day hopes, especially as the last meeting at home to their visitors ended in a heavy 4-1 defeat back in January.

Alaves finished the season in promising fashion at home, winning three of their last four games but these wins were against Huesca, Villarreal and Granada, who, with no disrespect, are of inferior quality to Real Madrid.

Real Madrid narrowly missed out in the La Liga title race at the end of last season as they were pipped at the post by a two-point margin by eventual winners and crosstown rivals, Atletico Madrid, so the visitors will be looking to go one step better this season.

Nevertheless, it was a solid campaign by Real Madrid who suffered just one defeat on the road throughout the whole of last season, while the visitors ended last term with a strong sequence of results.

Real Madrid were unbeaten in their last 18 matches overall in La Liga which included 13 wins, while on the road, the visitors were also unbeaten in their last 14 games which included nine wins as well.

Real Madrid have also won seven of their last nine games on their travels and along with their previous supremacy over Deportivo Alaves in recent exchanges, the visitors look in good shape to start their new La Liga campaign off with a winning start.

Real Madrid manager, Carlo Ancelotti, has a number of dangerous attacking potential at his fingertips with the likes of prolific striker, Benzema (23 goals last season) leading the way up front.

In addition, Real Madrid have won four of the last five meetings between the two clubs and look set for further success here.
