Friday night’s curtain-raiser to the new Danish Superliga season features the clash between last season’s runners-up, Midtjylland, and Odense, at the MCH Arena with Midtjylland no doubt wanting to go one step better this season.

Midtjylland were pipped by just a single point at the end of the second phase of the domestic top flight campaign by Championship Round winners, Brondby, but both sides qualified for the Champions League qualifying rounds.

Overall, it was a solid campaign for Midtylland but they’ll have been kicking themselves for the poor returns they produced in the final run-in to last season, winning just two of their final six matches overall.

Nevertheless, Midtjylland suffered just two defeats at home throughout the whole of the campaign and finished last season in strong fashion, winning five of their last six matches at their MCH Arena.

In addition, Midtjylland kept four clean sheets in these last six home games of the season while their head-to-head record against Odense in recent times has been solid.

The hosts are unbeaten in each of the last six meetings and they’ve won their last two meetings at home on the trot as well.

Odense have been handed a tough season-opener in the shape of Midtjylland but the visitors will be keen to produce a better showing in this season’s Danish Superliga campaign having finished in 8th place at the end of the regular season.

OB also ended last term in positive fashion by winning three of their final four matches of the season with wins registered against Aalborg, Lyngby and Horsens, but it should be noted that these victories were gained over opposition that were also residing in the Relegation Group in the second phase of the domestic top flight season.

Whilst the majority of Odense’s modest successes were achieved on home turf at their Nature Energy Park, winning four of their total of seven wins fro the season in their own backyard, wins on the road were sporadic at best.

With just three wins from their last 13 matches on their travels which were recorded at Nordsjaelland, Aalborg and Lyngby, but also included five defeats, Odense look to have their work cut out if they’re to get even a point off Midtjylland in this Friday evening clash at the MCH Arena, especially as they’ve kept just three clean sheets in this period as well.

Midtjylland will be eager to get off to a good start here against an Odense outfit whom they’ve had the measure of in their last two meetings at home.
