Sao Paulo’s winless run to continue versus Internacional
4026

Sao Paulo’s 2021 Serie A season has not started well. Hernan Crespo’s team are winless in nine games this season with five points from 27 available coming from five draws.

On Wednesday night (Thursday European time), Sao Paulo travel to Estadio Beira Rio to face Internacational. The Reds are 14th in Serie A going into the fixture with 10 points from 27 possible.

Diego Aguirre’s team are winless in their last three matches and need a win to improve any hope of winning the league. Internacional finished second in Serie A in 2020 and nearly lifted the title.

Hopes were high of a repeat title fight this term, but that looks increasingly unlikely now.

Just two points from 12 have been taken by Internacional at home this season. The Reds have been outscored 6-4 at the Estadio Beira Rio.

Sao Paulo have taken just two points from 15 possible on the road this term. They have drawn back-to-back road games.

Sao Paulo’s defence has been guilty of conceding six goals this term away from home while the attack has been dismal scoring just once.

The Paulista Tricolour have been bad this season, but are still just one point from safety.

Sport Recife sit one point ahead of Sao Paulo in the league table, which means the Paulista club could emerge from the relegation zone with a win or possibly a draw.

If Sao Paulo continue to drop points, Crespo is likely to be sacked sooner rather than later. His previous managerial spells in Argentina did not end well.

Aguirre is likely to be without the injured personnel of defender Ze Gabriel, striker Paolo Guerrero, centre-back Rodrigo Moledo, and full-back Moises. Taison is a doubt to play after suffering a muscle injury.

Crespo is dealing with multiple injuries as well. Gabriel Sara, William da Silva, and Walce are all three likely to miss out. Sao Paulo do not have a deep squad.

Former Barcelona player Dani Alves recently returned from injury to play in Sao Paulo’s defence.

Five of the last 11 matches between Internacional and Sao Paulo finished in stalemates. With both teams struggling for form and to get wins, Wednesday night’s game is likely to finish in a draw as well.

Last season, these teams drew 1-1 at the Estadio Beira Rio. Internacional and Sao Paulo are likely to see another stalemate this time around with under 2.5 goals scored as wins continue to be elusive for both teams.
