Houston aiming to end Seattle’s unbeaten streak in the West

The Sounders will aim to maintain their unbeaten start to the 2021 MLS season when they welcome Houston to Lumen Field on Thursday.

The Dynamo have also made a promising start to the campaign, having lost just three of their opening 12 games (three wins, six draws).

As a result, Houston find themselves seventh in the Western Conference – nine points behind second-place Seattle.

The Sounders have claimed seven wins and five draws from their opening 12 matches and are the only unbeaten team in Major League Soccer this year.

Although they have drawn four of their previous six games, Brian Schmetzer’s men remain level with first-place Sporting KC and have a game in hand over the Wizards.

Not only are the Sounders the second-highest scorers in the West (21 goals), but they also boast the best defensive record in the conference (eight goals).

Having netted nine goals this term, Raul Ruidiaz is currently the second-top scorer in the league – one goal behind LA Galaxy’s Javier Hernandez.

Goalkeepers Stefan Frei and Stefan Cleveland have also kept five clean sheets between them this season.

On the flip side, Houston head into Thursday’s clash on a run of four consecutive draws in Major League Soccer.

The Texas outfit have drawn with LAFC, Portland, RSL, and Cincinnati in recent weeks, meaning they have failed to win any of their previous five outings.

That said, Seattle Sounders are the only team with fewer losses than Houston in the Western Conference, so it’s not all doom and gloom for Tab Ramos’ side.

If the Dynamo can start turning draws into wins, they will be able to mount a serious challenge for a top-seven finish.

Head-to-head: Houston’s last victory over the Sounders in Major League Soccer came during the 2017 season.

Since then, Seattle have claimed seven straight MLS wins against the Dynamo – keeping five clean sheets along the way.

Team news: The Sounders are without four key players through injury at the moment, with Stefan Frei, Nicolas Lodeiro, Jordy Delem and Jordan Morris on the sidelines.

As for Houston Dynamo, they currently have centre-back Ethan Harlow on the treatment table, although they don’t have any fresh injury concerns.

Although Seattle are flying high at the moment, Houston have shown they can compete with the top sides in the West this year.

For that reason, Forebet predicts that Houston will hold Seattle to a low-scoring draw at Lumen Field.
