On Friday night, Derry City host Waterford in the Irish Premier Division, as the home team attempts to make up ground on the European places in the Irish top-flight.
Derry’s form has been inconsistent of late in the Premier Division, as they head into this game on the back of one win in their last four league outings.
However, a 2-1 defeat at Dundalk last time out in the league ended an eight-game unbeaten run in the top-flight for City. That unbeaten run is slightly deceptive, though, as five of those eight undefeated games finished all square.
Their recent form has left Derry City seventh place in the league table, but just five points from the European spots.
While their recent Premier Division games have not all been high-scoring, both teams have scored in ten of Derry’s last 11 outings in the top-flight.
Ruaidhri Higgins’ team have failed to win any of their last nine home matches in the Irish Premier Division. However, they are unbeaten in four home games in the league because their last four matches have finished in draws.
Waterford may only be two places below their hosts in the league table, but they trail them by nine points. They also currently occupy the relegation play-off spot and are just four points clear of bottom of the table Longford Town.
The visitor's form has been poor in the Premier Division this season. However, there have been signs that it may be improving, as Marc Bircham’s team have taken four points from their last two games against Longford and last time out St Patricks Athletic.
Waterford have also now won back-to-back away games in the league while scoring at least twice in both matches.
