Switzerland Could Push France All the Way
7156

There are two fixtures to look forward to on Monday the 28th of June in the Round of 16 at the European Championship. The second of which is between France and Switzerland at the Arena Națională, in Bucharest.

The French are the current World Cup holders while the Swiss have never progressed beyond this stage of the European Championship.

France were drawn in Group F and this was the toughest group of the tournament, including Portugal, Germany, and Hungary.

France started well with a 1-0 victory over the Germans but were then held to a 1-1 draw by Hungary, which was a shock result.

France knew they had already secured their place in the knockout stages prior to their third match against Portugal but still fielded a strong team in a game that ended in a 2-2 draw.

France are undefeated in their last 10 matches in all competitions, winning 8 of those fixtures. Going back to the 2016 European Championship, France are undefeated in 9 of their last 10 games at the tournament.

They have won 6 of those fixtures, with one defeat and 3 draws, one of which came against Switzerland in the group stages five years ago.

Trends show France have scored at least one goal in each of their last 10 matches but they have failed to keep a clean sheet in their two most recent fixtures.

Switzerland come into the game having finished third in Group A behind Wales and Italy. They started their campaign with a 1-1 draw against the Welsh in game they really should have won.

However, things did not go according to plan in the second group game against Italy in Rome and Switzerland found themselves 2-0 down after 52 minutes and conceded a third goal in the last minute of the match.

The final game of the group against Turkey saw Switzerland produced their best performance of the tournament to date.

They scored some excellent goals on their way to a 3-1 win and finished as the third best of the third placed teams in the group stage on 4 points.

Trends show Switzerland have been a difficult team to beat in recent matches and they are undefeated in 9 of their last 10 games.

The Swiss have scored at least one goal in each of their last 12 fixtures in all competitions but have kept only one clean sheet in their 6 most recent matches.

Team news and France have a decision to make in the right-back position and Benjamin Pavard could come back into the team at the expense of Jules Koundé.

Lucas Digne is injured so Lucas Hernandez will start at left-back. Antoine Griezmann, Kylian Mbappé, and Karim Benzema are set to continue in attack.

Switzerland are likely to go with the same starting XI from the match against Turkey. That could mean three at the back, with Xherdan Shaqiri playing in support of Haris Seferović and Breel Embolo.

Most onlookers will be expecting a comfortable victory for France but Switzerland could make life difficult for the World Cup winners.

France have not been at their best and we could see this game go into extra-time following a draw, with both teams scoring.
