We have reached the Round 16 stage at the European Championship and the first fixture to be played takes place on Saturday the 26th of June between Wales and Denmark.

The match will be played at the Johan Cruyff Arena, Amsterdam, which means it is a neutral venue for both teams, although there are expected to be more Danish fans than Welsh inside the stadium.

Wales come into the game having finished second in Group A, behind Italy. The Welsh started with a 1-1 draw against Switzerland and they did well to take a point in a match during which they were second best for much of the game.

However, Wales produced a tremendous performance as they defeated Turkey 2-0 and the winning margin could easily have been greater than two goals.

The final game of the group against Italy in Rome was always going to be tough and having gone down to 10 men early in the second half, Wales did well to keep the score at 1-0 to the Italians.

There are members of this Welsh squad that know what it takes to reach the semi-final of the European Championship, having done so in 2016.

Wales will be hoping to keep things tight and hit Denmark on the break. They have seen under 2.5 goal in their 4 most recent fixtures in all competitions and in 5 of their last 6 European Championship matches.

Denmark have done superbly to reach this stage of the competition considering what happened in their opening game of the tournament against Finland.

The collapse of Christian Eriksen on the pitch shook everyone in football but especially the Danish players and it was little surprised to see them go on to lose the match 1-0.

The Danes produced a strong performance against Belgium in their second group game but ultimately fell short, losing the match 2-1.

That left them knowing they needed to beat Russia in their final match to have any chance of progressing and Denmark delivered the goods, beating Russia 4-1 in-front of a passionate Danish crowd in Copenhagen.

Denmark will look back on the 2018 Nations League, as this was the last time they played Wales. The Danes won both fixtures and will be using that as inspiration for this Round of 16 tie.

Trends show Denmark have lost only 4 of their last 37 matches in all competitions.

Team news and Wales have a fully fit squad available for this game but Ethan Ampadu is suspended. That should mean a 4-2-3-1 formation, with Kieffer Moore playing up-front, supported by Gareth Bale, Aaron Ramsey, and Daniel James.

Denmark are likely to go with the same starting XI from the win against Russia, meaning a place in the team for Mikkel Damsgaard in support of Yussuf Poulsen.

This has the makings of being an extremely competitive match, with under 2.5 goals being scored. Both teams will be wary of conceding the first goal but Denmark will be flying following their victory over Russia and could come away with a narrow 1-0 win.
