Uruguay tipped to end scoring drought and come good against Chile

Chile will be hoping to extend their unbeaten start to the 2021 Copa America when they come up against Uruguay at Cuiaba’s Arena Pantanal on Monday.

Having taken four points from a possible six so far, the Chileans find themselves level with Argentina at the top of Group B.

At the other end of the standings, Uruguay are joint-bottom with Bolivia after losing their tournament opener to Argentina.

Uruguay actually enjoyed the lion’s share of possession against Argentina, yet they failed to register a single shot on target.

When you look at Uruguay’s recent scoring record, it isn’t exactly a shock that they were unable to trouble Argentina.

Indeed, Oscar Tabarez’s men have failed to find the back of the net in each of their previous four games in all competitions.

Uruguay have suffered defeats to Brazil and Argentina during that period, as well as draws against Paraguay and Venezuela.

Given that Uruguay boast attacking talents like Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani, their current form isn’t good enough.

While Uruguay have only played one match at the tournament so far, Chile have already played twice – picking up four points in the process.

After holding Argentina to a 1-1 draw in their opening game, Chile claimed a 1-0 victory over Bolivia last time out.

Not only did the Chileans enjoyed 62% possession, but they also managed to register 18 shots (11 on target).

Having cruised to victory on Fridy, Chile now head into their third match of the competition on a five-game unbeaten streak (two wins, three draws).

Head-to-head: Uruguay beat Chile 1-0 at the 2019 Copa America before beating them 2-1 in World Cup qualifying last year.

In actual fact, Uruguay have only lost three of their previous nine meetings with Chile in all competitions.

Team news: Tabarez could be tempted to alter his starting XI, with Uruguay failing to score in each of their last four games.

As for Chile, Blackburn Rovers striker Ben Brereton looks set to keep his place in the team after scoring on his first start for the country.

It is no secret that Uruguay have struggled for goals of late, but they have more than enough attacking firepower to dispatch Chile.

For that reason, Forebet predicts that Uruguay will end their scoring drought and secure a narrow win over Chile.
