Internacional desperately need to jumpstart Serie A campaign against Ceara

Internacional crumpled late in the 2020 Serie A season, losing out on the title by just one point as Flamengo got hot down the stretch.
Miguel Angel Ramirez’s team have not started the new campaign well and are showing a heavy hangover from the previous title failure. Internacional have taken a mere four points from 12 available.
It is a poor return for a team that were expected to fight for the title pre-season.
On Sunday, Internacional host Ceara with both clubs desperately seeking to jumpstart their campaigns. Ceara are also on four points from 12 possible. After defeating Gremio on matchday 1 by a 3-2 scoreline, Ceara have failed to win three straight fixtures.
Ceara are coming off of a midweek 2-1 home loss to Bahia. They are now –2 in goal difference having conceded seven times and scored five goals.
Internacional go into the Sunday match following a 1-0 home defeat to Atletico MG. Ramirez has watched the team score a mere four goals in four games while allowing eight to opponents.
Unless something is done quickly, Internacional are going to have a long season in midtable.
Ramirez should have Ribeiro available once more. He missed the team’s midweek loss due to suspension. Internacional’s Marcelo Lomba, Renzo Saravia, Rodrigo Dourado, Rodrigo Moledo and Gabriel Boschilia are all likely to miss the game due to illness and/or injury.
Ceara manager Guto Ferreira has a number of squad members either ruled out or doubts to play the match. The quartet of Fabinho, Felipe Baxola, Vitor Jacare, and Joao Ricardo all expected to miss the game.
In 2020, Internacional dominated the series of games between the two teams. Internacional won each game by identical 2-0 scorelines. They are unbeaten in six of the last eight matches in all competitions versus Ceara.
Home-field advantage has been more like a disadvantage for Internacional this season. They have taken a mere one point from six available at the Estadio Beira Rio. The Reds have allowed three goals to opponents while tallying two at home.
Two of Internacional’s goals this season have come from Edenilson. Meanwhile, Internacional lead Serie A in aggression. They have been given out 15 yellow cards and three red cards in just four games.
Ceara have been equally as bad on their travels as Internacional have been at home. They tallied one point from six available. Ceara have scored just once away from home and allowed three goals.
Neither team are in form going into the match. However, Internacional took six points from six off of Ceara last season. Can they get three on Sunday at home?
