Portugal and Germany set for tense encounter in Group F

Germany know they must bounce back from their 1-0 loss to France when they welcome Portugal to the Allianz Arena on Saturday.

Despite controlling large spells of possession, the Germans failed to take their chances and were made to pay by the 2018 World Cup winners.

Meanwhile, Portugal claimed a convincing 3-0 victory over Hungary in their opening match of the European Championship.

The Euro 2016 champions were made to wait until the 84th minute to break the deadlock in Budapest on Tuesday.

However, Raphael Guerreiro opened the scoring before Cristiano Ronaldo bagged a quick-fire brace late on.

The Portuguese enjoyed 70% possession and racked up 11 shots against Hungary, while the hosts only managed three attempts on target.

Portugal extended their unbeaten streak to seven games on Tuesday and have only lost one of their previous 16 matches in all competitions.

Looking at the bigger picture, the Portuguese have only lost four of their last 57 encounters in all competitions.

Despite their best efforts earlier in the week, Germany were beaten 1-0 by France in their Euro 2020 opener.

Joachim Low’s men saw 62% possession and also recorded ten shots, although they only managed to notch one attempt on target.

The Germans have now lost three of their last seven outings, picking up three wins and one draw along the way.

It is also worth pointing out that each of Germany’s previous three European Championship matches have produced under 2.5 goals.

If Low’s men continue to waste their chances, they could find themselves missing out on place in the knockout phase.

Head-to-head: Interestingly, Germany have won each of their previous four games against Portugal in all competitions.

Portugal’s last victory over Germany came all the way back in 2000, although a lot has changed since then.

Team news: Both Portugal and Germany came out of their opening match without picking up any injury concerns.

However, Low is likely to shake up Germany’s starting XI following their loss to the French in their opening game.

With so much at stake on Saturday, Portugal and Germany are expected to produce a tense and low-scoring affair.

With that in mind, Forebet predicts that Portugal and Germany are likely to play out a goalless draw in Munich.
