The unrest is growing at Everton over the team's recent performances under experienced boss Sam Allardyce. The Toffees suffered a sixth consecutive away defeat in the league on Saturday, as they went down 2-1 at Burnley’s Turf Moor.

The defeat is just another in a long line of disappointing results for the Toffees, who started the season with hopes of breaking into the top-six after heavy spending during the summer.

However, poor recruitment and a nightmare start led to the sacking of boss Ronald Koeman before the arrival of Allardyce at the end of November. After a brief upturn in fortune that saw the Toffees climb into the top half of the table, things have gone downhill under the veteran boss and the Merseysiders are currently 11th place in the table.

Not only are the team’s results concerning for everybody connected with the club, the style of play had also raised alarm amongst the Everton fans.

Allardyce’s attitude towards the job has also annoyed Evertonian’s. The former England boss even compared the Toffees level of expectation with that of former clubs West Ham and Newcastle, which did not go down well with those connected to Everton.

The atmosphere is currently toxic at the Merseyside club. They are currently seven points above the relegation zone and looking secure from the drop. However, with home games against Liverpool and Manchester City to come, they could be dragged back into the dogfight.

If the Toffees do secure safety in the next few weeks, it would not be a major surprise to see Allardyce relieved of his duties before the summer.

The likes of Mikel Arteta, Paulo Fonseca, Marco Silva and even veteran Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger have been linked with the position on Merseyside. There would certainly be no shortage of interested parties and Allardyce looks to be living on borrowed time at Everton.
