The Top 4 Battle in the Premier League - Can Liverpool Beat United to 4th

The Top 4 Battle in the Premier League - Can Liverpool Beat United to 4th
1431

Out of nowhere, Liverpool have rocketed up the Premier League table, just as Manchester United won one of their past four games.

It leaves a gap of just one point between the two sides in the race for fourth with Erik ten Hag having a game in hand.

We analysis the run-in for the two sides in the top four race.

Liverpool

There is a chance Liverpool need to make up four points on United, given the game in hand for them. That extra game will be played in two weeks against Chelsea, meaning Liverpool could be in the top four by that point.

The Reds have Leicester City and Aston Villa before that game in hand for their arch rivals, and they will fancy themselves to get all three points in both games.

In fact, with a trip to Southampton on the last day of the season to come for Liverpool, they are likely to get nine from nine given how Southampton are probably already relegated by that stage.

Against Leicester up next for Liverpool, this is going to be their toughest test. The Foxes have everything to play for and heading to a relegation fighter with only three games left to go in the league season is never an easy feat, as there is so much on the line. In current form, however, they should get all three points.

Liverpool will meet with Aston Villa at Anfield next and after such another magnificent run in the Premier League at Anfield this season, they will likely get another win in this game. As mentioned, the Reds should also ease past Southampton.

At the end of the season, we expect Liverpool to have won all their games.

Manchester United

As for United, they simply need to win their next game against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Old Trafford. With a game in hand, they can technically lose that match, but it would then be a third loss in a row for United.

At Old Trafford, we expect them to win that game. Up next would be Bournemouth, who similarly to Liverpool’s battle with Leicester, will be fighting relegation. In current form, we wouldn’t be surprised if United drew that game.

The club's game in hand then comes against Chelsea towards the end of May before concluding the season with a battle against Fulham.

Given how both games are at home and how those two sit outside of the top eight, ten Hag's men will be favoured to win those games. However, a game against Chelsea for United is never easy.
