Friday Night Football

Real Sociedad claimed their seventh consecutive home victory in all competitions by beating Valladolid at the Reale Arena on Friday night. Belgian winger Adnan Januzaj’s header on 60 minutes proved to be the difference between the two teams.

Saturday’s Round-Up

Eibar ended a four-game winless run by thumping Levante 3-0. Charles bagged a brace before Fabian Orellana completed the scoring late on. Eibar are now five points clear of the bottom three and five points behind eleventh-place Levante.

Despite being dominated by Betis for much of the game, Valencia eventually beat Rubi’s side 2-1. Kevin Gameiro opened the scoring with a long-range curling strike and Dani Parejo added a second. Leron Moron snatched a late consolation for Betis, but the damage had already been done by the home side.

Leganes notched up 19 shots against Alaves but remain in the relegation zone after being held to a 1-1 draw by the Vasque club. Lucas Perez put Alavez ahead before Guido Carrillo rescued a point for Leganes.

Granada had 14 shots against Celta Vigo but failed to register a single one on target at Los Carmenes. A goalless draw means Celta Vigo remain outside the bottom three, while Granada are ninth – six points shy of the European spots.

Super Sunday

Youssef En-Nesyri scored an injury-time winner as Sevilla got the better of Osasuna in a five-goal thriller. En-Nesyri put Sevilla ahead on 13 minutes before Lucas Ocampos made it 2-0 just before half time. To make matters worse for the visitors, goalkeeper Sergio Herrera was sent off early in the second half.

However, Osasuna mounted a comeback, and goals from Aridane Hernandez and Roberto Torres saw the away side draw level. But deep into added time, En-Nesyri scrambled home to seal the win for Sevilla.

Raul Garcia’s 56th-minute penalty was enough to separate Athletic Bilbao and Villarreal. Bilbao moved to within four points of Villarreal with all three points, while Javier Calleja’s side have now suffered back-to-back defeats.

Bottom club Espanyol held Atletico Madrid to a 1-1 draw at Cornella-El Prat. Stefan Savic scored an own goal on 24 minutes, but Saul rescued a point for Atletico just after the break. Diego Simeone’s men are now 12 points behind table-topping Real Madrid.

Getafe returned to winning ways with a cagey win over relegation strugglers Mallorca. Nemanja Maksimovic scored the only goal of the game midway through the second half, while Salva Sevilla was sent off late on for the hosts.

Goals from Vinicius Junior and Mariano saw Real Madrid beat Barcelona in a tense but disappointing El Clasico. Los Blancos leapfrogged Barcelona at the top of the table, taking control of the title race once again.
