Saturday’s Round-Up

Chelsea got the better of Tottenham in the London derby as the weekend’s Premier League action got underway. Olivier Giroud opened the scoring before Marcos Alonso added a brilliant second. Antonio Rudiger scored a late own goal, while Giovani Lo Celso was lucky to escape a red card after stamping on Cesar Azpilicueta.

Patrick van Aanholt netted an excellent free-kick as Crystal Palace edged past Newcastle at Selhurst Park. The visitors had very chances and Valentino Lazaro was sent off late on for bringing down Wilfried Zaha.

Three second-half goals from Burnley condemned Bournemouth to back-to-back defeats. Matej Vydra, Jay Rodriguez and Dwight McNeil all got on the scoresheet for the Clarets, while Bournemouth had two goals ruled out by VAR.

Relegation strugglers Brighton picked up a vital point at Bramall Lane to move four points clear of the bottom three. Enda Stevens put Sheff Utd in front on 26 minutes with a fine long-range strike, but Neal Maupay levelled moments later.

Aston Villa managed just one shot on target as they were completely outplayed by Southampton. Shane Long opened the scoring at St. Mary’s after eight minutes and Saints continued to dominate throughout the game. Stuart Armstrong capped off a convincing win with a goal deep into second-half stoppage-time.

A late Gabriel Jesus goal proved to be the difference between Manchester City and Leicester at the King Power Stadium. Jamie Vardy hit the post in the first half before Kasper Schmeichel saved a Sergio Aguero penalty. Second-place Man City moved seven points clear of Leicester in third.

Super Sunday

Diogo Jota continued his fine goalscoring form, and Raul Jimenez also found the back of the net, as Wolves comfortably beat Norwich. Jota’s first-half brace stunned the Canaries, while Jimenez scored Wolves’ third early in the second half. Norwich as now six points adrift at the bottom.

Bruno Fernandes opened his Manchester United account from the penalty spot as the Red Devils saw off Watford at Old Trafford. Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood also got on the scoresheet, but the Hornets offered very little resistance.

Everton took an early lead against Arsenal thanks to an acrobatic effort from Dominic Calvert Lewin, but goals from Eddie Nketiah and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang swung the game in the Gunners favour. Richarlison levelled just before half-time, but Aubameyang scored the winner a minute after the break.

Monday Night Football

Liverpool came from behind to secure yet another win, this time against West Ham. Georginio Wijnaldum put the Reds ahead on nine minutes, but Issa Diop levelled three minutes later. Pablo Fornals then gave the Hammers lead early in the second half before Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane both scored to secure all three points for Jurgen Klopp’s side.
