Saturday’s Round-Up

Granada came from behind to beat Espanyol, keeping the Barcelona outfit rooted to the bottom of the table. Raul de Tomas put Espanyol ahead from the penalty spot, but goals either side of half time from Darwin Machis and Carlos Fernandez gave the home side the win.

Karim Benzema scored the only goal of the game as Real Madrid dominated Atletico in the Madrid derby. Diego Simeone’s side only managed one shot on target, while Los Blancos registered 16 attempts and 66% of the possession.

Valladolid claimed a much-needed victory over relegation rivals Mallorca. Enes Unal’s 56th minute header handed the visitors their first league win in ten attempts, leaving Mallorca sat just outside the bottom three.

Valencia moved up to the fourth following a hard-fought win against Celta Vigo on Saturday night. In a game of very few clear-cut chances, Carlos Soler netted on 77 minutes to ensure Valencia claimed all three points.

Super Sunday

Leganes secured a dramatic late victory to stun Real Sociedad at Butarque. Alexander Isak’s precise finish saw Sociedad take the lead before Kenneth Omeruo levelled just after half-time. Then, in the 94th minute, Oscar Rodriguez scored a stunning free-kick to claim a famous win for Leganes.

Two goals inside the first 15 minutes saw Eibar and Real Betis play out a dull draw. Nabil Fekir put Betis in front with a fantastic long-range strike on 7 minutes, but Fabian Orellana scored from the penalty spot moments later.

Getafe moved up to third after recording their third straight La Liga win with victory over Bilbao. Despite seeing just 28% of the possession, Getafe snatched all three points thanks to goals from Damian Suarez and Jaime Mata.

Club record signing Peco Alcacer scored on his debut as Villarreal beat Osasuna 3-1. Alcacer opened the scoring, but Aridane Hernandez levelled for the visitors. However, two goals in five second-half minutes from Ruben Pena and Santi Cazorla saw Villarreal move up to seventh.

Despite dominating large spells of the game, Sevilla went behind against Alaves. Joselu put the away side ahead on 70 minutes but Lucas Ocampos converted from the penalty spot to claim a much-deserved draw for Sevilla.

Lionel Messi set up two Ansu Fati goals in the space of 90 seconds as Barcelona raced into a two-goal lead against Levante. Ruben Rochina scored a late consolation goal for Levante, but the damage had already been done.
