Barcelona breaks yet another record against Rayo Vallecano
Spanish league leaders and reigning champions Barcelona broken yet another record in last night’s 5-1 win at nine-man Rayo Vallecano, as they became the first team in the history of Spanish football to go 35 games unbeaten in all competitions.
As usual Argentinian maestro Lionel Messi took centre stage, scoring a hat-trick with Ivan Rakitic and Arda Turan also getting on the scoresheet. Former- Manchester United striker Manucho grabbed a consolation goal for Rayo, who had Diego Llorente and Manuel Iturra dismissed.
The victory means that the Blaugrana are now eight points clear of second-place Atletico Madrid in the race for La Liga.
Barcelona’s last defeat came way back on 3rd October with a 2-1 loss at Sevilla and the Catalan giants are looking good for the Spanish league title and the Champions League crown as well.
The previous record for unbeaten games was held by Barcelona’s fierce rivals Real Madrid, who went 34 goals undefeated in the 1988/89 campaign.
Barcelona’s incredible run has seen the side from Catalonia pick-up 29 victories and just six draws. Luis Enrique’s side have scored an incredible 107 goals and conceded just 20 in that fantastic run.
Real Madrid are struggling to keep pace with their perennially rivals and are currently third in La Liga and behind their city rivals Atletico. Barcelona breaking that record previously held by Los Blancos will just be another poke in the eye for the men from the Spanish capital this season.
