Leicester City giving the elite clubs a poke in the eye

Leicester continued their fantastic Premier League campaign with an amazing 3-1 win at the Etihad Stadium against Manchester City on Saturday afternoon. The victory came courtesy of a brace from centre-back Robert Huth and a superb strike from star midfielder Riyad Mahrez.

The win sent shockwaves through the English top-flight, as the Foxes moved six points clear of the Citizens at the top of the table. Tottenham cut the gap down to five points, but Leicester are becoming increasingly hard to ignore.

Leicester started the season as one of the favourites to be relegated, but shrewd signings and good work from boss Claudio Ranieri have made the Foxes a real force in the top-flight.

The likes of Riyad Mahrez and Jamie Vardy will get the headlines from the press. However, a number of other players have also proven a key to Leicester’s success this season. The centre-defensive partnership of Robert Huth and Wes Morgan has been superb for the Foxes.

Both players have been criticised in their careers, but their performances at the heart of the Foxes backline have been highly-impressive. The fact that the Foxes have kept five clean sheets in their last seven Premier League games and conceded just two goals in that period shows that their defence has been watertight.

Leicester have been a breath of fresh air in the Premier League this season. The Foxes have spent very little in the recent transfer windows, yet they are making the likes of big spending Manchester City look very silly this season.

A Leicester City title triumph would show every Premier League club what can be achieved by confidence, fight and very good organisation.
