Which Premier League Clubs did the Best Deals on Deadline Day?

While this deadline day passed without any huge transfer fees being paid out and only one of the title-challengers doing any business, there were still a few interesting signings that went through before the 11pm deadline (or later if it was a deal sheet was submitted before the deadline passed).

Everton

The Toffees, as expected, saw more players leave the club than come in on deadline day. Everton did manage to bring in Josh King from Bournemouth until the end of the season. The 29-year-old has plenty of Premier League experience and offers another goal threat and pace either up front or on the wing. The Toffee’s had been keen on the Norwegian international in the summer and are said to be very happy to have finally signed King.

Southampton

The Saints added some extra creativity in midfield with the signing of Takumi Minamino on loan from Liverpool. The Japanese international scored goals for RB Salzburg before making his move to the Premier League but has found his time on the pitch limited with the Champions. At the age of 26, this is likely to spell the end for Minamino’s Liverpool career and Southampton will have half a season to assess the player and see if he is worth signing permanently.

Fulham

The Lewisham born, Nigerian international striker, Josh Maja made the move to Fulham on deadline day from Ligue 1 side Bordeaux on loan. Maja spent time during his youth at Crystal Palace, Fulham, Man City and Sunderland and made his name at the Black Cats. Maja scored 16 goals in 41 league games for Sunderland before being signed by the French club. Fulham have singed a 22-year-old with plenty of promise but no experience in the Premier League, so it will be interesting to see how he performs for Scott Parker’s side.

West Brom

The Baggies brought in a couple of loan signings that they hope will help them stay in the top-flight this season. Ainsley Maitland-Niles arrived from Arsenal and is a talented 23-year-old that can play in multiple positions across midfield and at right-back.

Okay Yokuslu has moved to the club from Celta Vigo and is considered a hard-working, ball-winning midfielder, very much in the style that Allardyce likes. Yokuslu is an experienced Turkish international that has played in Spain since 2018 following his move from Trabzonspor.

Liverpool

Due to their injury crises in defence, Klopp brought in two defenders on deadline day. Ben Davies arrived for a small fee from Preston. Davies is 25 years old and can play at centre-back or left-back and is considered one of the best defenders in the Championship.

Ozan Kabak is a young Turkish defender that has been playing in Germany since 2019. The 20-year-old arrives on loan from Schalke where he has been a part of the worst defence in the Bundesliga this season, but clearly Klopp has seen something special in this young international.

Brighton

The Seagulls might well have made the most exciting move on deadline day, bring in talented Ecuador international, Moises Caicedo. The 19-year-old had been linked with moves to Everton amongst others and is seen as one of the brightest prospects in South America right now. It will be interesting to see how this raw midfielder is shaped by his time on the South Coast, but we might not see the best of him for another season or two.
