2020 was a strange year for obvious reasons. But despite all the doom and gloom, there were still plenty of goals for us to enjoy.

With the new year now open us, let’s take a look back at the top five goalscorers across England’s top four tiers in 2020.

• Ivan Toney – Peterborough United & Brentford (26)

No player scored more goals across England’s top four tiers than Ivan Toney in 2020. The former Newcastle United striker spent the first half of the year at Peterborough United, before joining Brentford during the offseason.

Since making the step up from League One to the Championship, Toney has thrived, netting 16 goals in his in 22 league appearances at the back end of 2020 for his new club.

• Adam Armstrong – Blackburn Rovers (25)

Adam Armstrong has been a goal-machine for Blackburn Rovers for a while now, but there is no denying that 2020 was his most prolific season to date.

The forward bagged ten goals in 21 Championship games during the second half of the 2019/20 season, and it’s fair to say that he has picked up where he left off last term. Indeed, Armstrong has already racked up 16 goals in 22 matched this season.

• Mohamed Salah – Liverpool (23)

Mohamed Salah’s record for Liverpool is nothing short of outrageous. Not only did the Egyptian King net 23 league goals in 2020, but he also contributed plenty of goals in the Champions League, too.

Since arriving at Anfield in 2017, Salah has notched up a remarkable 110 goals and 45 assists in 175 appearances in all competitions. Unsurprisingly, he is also right in the mix for the Premier League Golden Boot this term.

• Paul Mullin – Tranmere Rovers & Cambridge United (19)

After joining Cambridge United on loan from Tranmere Rovers in January 2020, Paul Mullin eventually signed on a permanent basis in July. The 26-year-old has since bagged 19 goals in 28 outings for his new club.

The forward has already scored 15 goals in 18 league appearances this season, helping Cambridge to keep themselves among the promotion contenders in the fourth tier.

• Bruno Fernandes – Manchester United (18)

Few players have made the kind of impact that Bruno Fernandes has made at Old Trafford. The Portuguese has undoubtedly been Manchester United’s best player since he arrived in England last year.

He contributed eight goals and seven assists in just 14 Premier League outings last season, and he has already bagged 11 goals and seven assists in 16 league matches this time around.
