According to Italian publication Corriere dello Sport, PSG want to make Mauro Icardi’s temporary move permanent.
The Argentinian international is currently on loan from Italian club Inter Milan. The deal includes a fee of £62million to sign the forward permanently.
The move would make complete sense for everybody. Icardi has produced decent numbers in the French capital, scoring a creditable 12 goals in 14 Ligue One appearances, while scoring 20 goals in all competitions.
That record is despite having to compete with the ample attacking talents of Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Edinson Cavani.
Icardi’s signing last summer seemed like overkill considering PSG’s attacking options. However, it would seem like a logical move this summer. Cavani looks set to leave as a free agent, as his contract expires in the summer. Some reports suggest he could return to his native Uruguay with Penarol when his deal with the French club expires.
Then there is the Neymar situation. The Brazilian is consistently linked with a return to former club Barcelona. Whether anything will come of fresh speculation only time will tell.
Along with Mbappe, Icardi looks like the most solid forward option at the French club, as Thomas Tuchel’s side continue their efforts to become one of the best teams in the European game.
The forward’s former club Inter have two very good forward options in Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku and Icardi’s compatriot Lautaro Martinez. It would be difficult to see where Icardi would fit into Antonio Conte’s starting line-up. Icardi is also a divisive figure among the Nerazzurri fans.
Reportedly Italian club’s AC Milan and Juventus are interested in bringing him back to Italy. Conflicting reports suggest that Icardi would like to return to Italy. Maybe he should consider staying in Paris, as he seems to have found a place where he can thrive on a regular basis.
