The Premier League is a tough league for a young player to acclimatize to. One young Norwegian prospect arrived at Crystal Palace in February 2018 from FC Midtjylland for a club-record fee. That player was Alexander Sorloth.

The forward found the net just once in 20 appearances for the Eagles before leaving on-loan for Gent just 11 months later. He scored just five goals in his 22 appearances, which meant that the Belgian side decided not to extend his stay at the club.

However, in the summer of 2019, Sorloth made what could prove to be a pivotal move in his career. He joined Turkish club Trabzonspor on a loan deal that will last until next summer.

Sorloth has rediscovered the form that earned him the big move to Palace in the first place. The 24-year-old has scored 24 goals in all competitions this season, 19 of them came in the Turkish Lig. Ironically, the Eagles have scored just 24 league goals this season.

Sorloth is top of the scoring charts in the Turkish top-flight, with former Newcastle forward Papiss Cisse his closest competitor on 16 league goals for the season.

His goals have shot his team to the top of the Super Lig. They were in a great position to win their first title in 36 years before the suspension of the league due to the coronavirus. If the season concludes, then no doubt he will continue to fire home the goals powering their title bid.

According to the European press, Sorloth’s performances have attracted the attention of Spanish giants Real Madrid. This season has seen an amazing transformation for Sorloth, who has gone from Premier League flop to reported target for one of the biggest club teams in the world.

The future of Sorloth is unknown. However, the forward is contracted to his current club for another season, which means Trabzonspor will benefit from having the prolific goalscorer for another season at least.
