Gonzalo Higuain not made for the Premier League

Former Argentinian international striker Gonzalo Higuain was once one of the finest number nines in the world game. However, to say his loan move to Chelsea has not worked out would be an understatement.
The 31-year-old joined the Blues in January on loan from Juventus until the end of the season. The Bianconeri had already allowed the experienced striker to spend the first half of the campaign at AC Milan, where he scored five times in 15 Serie A appearances.
The fact that he was surplus to requirements at Juventus told a whole story in itself.
To many, a move to the Premier League would revive Higuain’s lukewarm career. The French-born striker had not been terrible at Juventus, but there was a sense he was in decline. The English top-flight is not a league to play in if you’re a striker in decline.
It is fast and physical. These two aspects of the Premier League seem to have stumped the forward. His record for the Blues is poor.
In fact, Higuain has scored just three goals in ten league appearances, with the goals coming against bottom two Fulham and Huddersfield.
He has failed to find the net in his other eight matches in the English top-flight since his temporary switch to England. Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri decided to start with Higuain on the bench for the Blues 2-0 defeat at Liverpool on Sunday. His second half introduction made little difference to the result.
While it would be unfair to say that Higuain is finished at the top-level of the game at 31.
It is fair to say that it looks highly unlikely that his future is playing his trade in England. A return to Italian football will likely be a better fit for a striker who was once a goal machine in Serie A.
