Liverpool recorded a 3-1 win at Bayern Munich on Wednesday night to progress to the last eight of the Champions League. The victory came after a goalless draw in the first leg at Anfield.

Liverpool’s recent form has been slightly inconsistent. However, the victory at the Allianz Arena means that Jurgen Klopp’s team has now recorded back-to-back wins while scoring seven goals in the process.

The Reds were not at their best in Munich but showed signs of returning to their attacking best, just as they did last time out against Burnley. Senegalese forward Sadio Mane scored another brace, as he continued his stellar recent form. The former Southampton star has overshadowed the Reds star player Mohamed Salah in recent games.

Mane was crucial in the Merseysider’s journey to the final of the Champions League last season. He could once again be a crucial player for the Reds if they are to mount a realistic challenge for the trophy.

Centre-back Virgil van Dijk was another player who was crucial in the win in Munich, as he has been all season. The Dutch centre-back scored the Reds second goal, which proved crucial to the result, as it swung the tie in Liverpool’s favour.

Liverpool showed last season in the Champions League that when they are on form they can beat anybody in Europe. Klopp’s side has improved from last season and it seems doubtful that many teams left in the competition will fancy their chances against the Merseysider’s.

The Reds are still very much in the race for the Premier League title and the Champions League. The challenge for Liverpool may face could be the fatigue that comes with competing in two such competitive competitions.

However, they are showing signs of a return to their best form, which could be bad news for teams at home and abroad.
