Sean Dyche doing a good job

Compared to most other managers in the Premier League, Sean Dyche’s managerial career is at its infancy. Besides getting promoted to the post of manager after Malky Mackay left Cardiff City in 2011, Burnley is Sean Dyche’s first real managerial job, and he has done decently well so far considering the resources he has had available to him.

At Cardiff City, he led the club to their highest finish in the league in four years, and a section of Cardiff city fans would have loved to have him sign a contract, but the club administrators had other plans.

Sean Dyche’s impact at Burnley was immediate; his start to the championship season was the best start the club had had since they were founded about 130 years before. He led the team to Premier League promotion in his first season there after a blistering season that saw them produce some of their finest performances in recent times, but their Premier League stint was short-lived.

After dropping back to the Championship in that season, a number of football fans was surprised that Dyche was offered a new contract by the club in 2016, an unusual move considering the spate of sackings in leagues in England. That move by the owners proved that they believed in the job Dyche was doing, after all, he was the one who took them to the Premier League in the first place. This faith showed in him was repaid when in the same season, he guided the club back to the Premier League.

Sean Dyche’s approach to management at Burnley is worthy of praise. He seems to genuinely care about the club and this may explain why the owners seem to be totally comfortable trusting him totally. As far as he is concerned, getting the club to the Premier League was nothing special, his dream and plan is to create a team that will be a force to reckon with in the league, and so far, he is doing a good job of that, even though his team still has quite some distance to go.

Sean Dyche isn’t concerned with fancy tactics or special formations, he seems to have realised that doing the basic and simple things well is key, and that has helped him build relatively strong teams from his time in the Championship. Dyche knows that he cannot compete with the top sides when it comes to flair and fancy football, majorly because of the limited resources at his disposal. So he has decided to build his team in a direction that would at least give him a chance against them, and at the same time compete on equal footing with the smaller sides in the league.

There are big managers in the league with lots of titles and trophies already on their records, and compared to most of them, Sean Dyche can be said to be a rookie, but with his tactical intelligence and realistic approach to games, he just might break into the circle of top class coaches someday.
