Last season was always going to be tough for Leicester City. Having shocked the world by winning the 2015/16 Premier League title, the Foxes were up against it the following season and so it proved with the sacking of Claudio Ranieri.
However, having flirted with relegation earlier in the season, Leicester City finished 12th in the Premier League. Although they would have liked to have finished in the top half of the table, this was a good end to the season.
Leicester City were also in the Champions League last season and did well to reach the quarter-final stage before being eliminated by Atletico Madrid.
What can we expect from Leicester City in the 2017/18 Premier League season?
Having taken over from Ranieri midway through last season, Craig Shakespeare has been given the job permanently and it will be interesting to see how he does having had a full preseason to work with the players.
Their defence of the Premier League title was the worst in the history of the competition and perhaps the burden of being champions did not help. Despite suffering two defeats and a draw at the end of the season, Leicester City enjoyed a good spell of form, winning seven of their ten league games between 27th February and 6th May.
If they can bring some of that form to this season, the Foxes should stay well clear of the relegation zone. Leicester City are 16/1 to be relegated from the Premier League and this underlines the feeling they will be safe.
If Leicester City are to enjoy a better campaign this time around, Jamie Vardy will need to be more consistent in-front of goal. The striker scored 24 Premier League goals in the title winning season but last season managed just 13 goals in comparison. The England international will be hoping to get close to the 20-goal mark again this season and is 40/1 to finish the 2017/18 Premier League season as top goal scorer.
Vardy is just 1/2 to be Leicester City’s top scorer with Islam Slimani out at 6/1. The arrival of Kelechi Iheanacho may change that a little, with the talented Nigerian capable of scoring goals.
While incoming transfers are important, outgoing players will also have an impact on Leicester City this season. Both Danny Drinkwater and Riyad Mahrez have been linked with moves away from the club and will be very difficult to replace.
If both players remain at Leicester City, they have what it takes to finish in the top half of the table. Leicester City are 10/11 to finish in the top half this season.
However, if Drinkwater and Mahrez leave, Leicester City may struggle to break into the top ten places. Leicester City are Evens to finish in the bottom half of the 2017/18 Premier League table.
