Mbappe may benefit from staying at Monaco for another season

Mbappe burst on the football scene last season by scoring 26 goals and producing eight assists, as the team from the principality won Ligue One and made it to the Champions League semi-finals.

The starlet has shown tremendous ability for such a young player. However, how he is managed and developed over the next couple of years could determine if he will fulfil his undoubted potential in the game.

At Monaco he is now regarded as a valuable first team player, having made 44 appearances in all competitions last season. Some of those appearances were from the bench, as boss Leonardo Jardim attempted to handle the youngster with care.

However, by the end of the campaign Mbappe was undoubtedly an important player for the French champions. If he stays next season he is sure to feature heavily for Jardim’s team.

If the youngster moves to a bigger club, then he is unlikely to play such a key role. He is just likely to be a backup player or even loaned out elsewhere. Mbappe is just too good a player to be sitting on the bench as an expensive bench warmer.

Even at 18, he should be playing football and gaining the valuable experience he needs to become a truly top player in the future. If he moves to Real Madrid, as mooted by some tabloids of late then his time on the pitch would likely be limited.

Despite all the interest from elsewhere, maybe it would benefit the youngster to stay with the French champions for another season after all it will be just his second season as a first team footballer.
