Liverpool stayed top of the Premier League table on Saturday, despite a goalless draw at Southampton. However, a Chelsea FC win saw Jurgen Klopp’s team drop to 2nd and now are only above third-place Manchester City on goals scored with the two side’s goal difference level.

Liverpool have been prolific in the Premier League this season, scoring over 2+ goals in eight of their 12 top-flight games this season. The likes of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, Adam Lallana and Philippe Coutinho have been fantastic in the Reds attack.

The absence through injury of England international Lallana at Southampton may have made a big difference. However, Klopp’s side had enough chances to win the game and Firmino, in particular, missed a golden opportunity to win it for the side from Merseyside.

Klopp’s ‘Gegenpressing’ style of football has created excitement amongst Liverpool and Premier League fans, as Liverpool have been playing some very good football at times. The Reds have made themselves genuine challengers for the Premier League title this season.

Liverpool have won praise from far and wide for their style of football. However, sceptics were asking how long they could keep it up for. Can they keep it up for a whole season? Dortmund played a similar style of play under Klopp and were very successful.

The draw at Southampton may only be a slight blip in the campaign for the men from Merseyside. Under Klopp Liverpool have lost just once in their last 15 outings in the Premier League and look like they could end their long wait for a top-flight title, which currently stands at 26 years.

Liverpool have been highly entertaining this season and one of the most exciting teams to watch in the top-flight. Whether they have the staying power to remain at the top and win the title remains to be seen, but they are certainly now a force under the affable Klopp.
