5 Biggest Deals of the Summer Transfer Window (2022)
1219

The summer transfer window slammed shut on Thursday night. Following almost three months of countless negotiations and multiple big-money deals, clubs across Europe have finalised their squads for the first half of the 2022/23 season.

Premier League clubs had a net spend of more than £1.70 billion, breaking the previous record for the league. Elsewhere in Europe, clubs in the Bundesliga, La Liga, Serie A and Ligue 1 also spent big to compete with their rivals.

Let’s take a look at the biggest transfers of the summer window.

Antony – Ajax to Manchester United (€95.00m)

Manchester United paid €95m to Ajax to acquire the services of Antony, making him the most expensive transfer of the window. The tricky Brazilian winger played 82 games for Ajax, bagging 24 goals and 22 assists.

Wesley Fofana – Leicester City to Chelsea (€80.40m)

Wesley Fofana became one of the most expensive defenders in history when Chelsea paid Leicester City €80.4m to lure the Frenchman to Stamford Bridge. At 21, the highly-rated centre-back is destined for the very top of the game.

Aurelien Tchouameni – Monaco to Real Madrid (€80.00m)

Like Chelsea, Real Madrid paid €80m to sign a rising French star. Los Blancos snatched Aurelien Tchouameni from Monaco at the beginning of the window, making him one of the most expensive signings in the club’s history.

Darwin Nunez – Benfica to Liverpool (€75.00m)

Liverpool parted ways with €75m in exchange for Darwin Nunez. Although the former Benfica striker was sent off in only his second Premier League game, he is expected to score plenty of goals this season and beyond.

Casemiro – Real Madrid to Manchester United (€70.65m)

Fresh from claiming his fifth Champions League title, Casemiro swapped Madrid for Manchester towards the end of the window. The hugely experienced Brazilian midfielder has the potential to take Man Utd to the next level.
