The Previous Times Aleksandar Mitrovic Was in the Premier League

Aleksandar Mitrović has reached a point no man in second tier English football history has ever achieved and with his unbelievable record of 43 goals scored from 44 games in the Championship, barely anyone on record has ever had a better goalscoring season in England.

He’s now back in the Premier League, so we look at how he has done previously in the division.

Newcastle United

Mitrović has been with two teams in the Premier League: Newcastle and Fulham. The Magpies had him first during a 2015/16 campaign where they were relegated back into the Championship, and again in 2017/18 in what was their returning season after he helped them get promoted with four goals in 25 Championship games.

A commendable nine goals in 34 games would come in for Mitrovic in 2015/16, which is not *that* bad considering the club were relegated with only 44 goals in total across 38 games.

His second season with Newcastle in the Premier League saw him play just six games and score one goal after a back injury ruled him out for much of the time between the summer and winter transfer windows. January would come, and he'd be loaned to Fulham back in the second tier before an eventual permanent move.

Fulham

Mitrovic has had two very contrasting years in the Premier League in between his three stunning campaigns with them in the Championship.

The Serbian first tasted Premier League action with the Cottagers back in 2018/19, and with 11 goals in 37 games, it was clear he had goalscoring ability in the top flight as he now had an impressive 21 goals in 77 games with sides who had been relegated that year.

In 2018/19, one of the 11 goals included an equaliser against Tottenahm Hotspur at White Hart Lane, while he also managed to get three braces across the season against Burnley, Brighton & Hove Albion, and Southampton. Another one of his 11 goals came in the 91st minute to snatch all three points in a must-win relegation battle against Huddersfield Town.

After relegation that year, the ex-Newcastle man netted 26 times in the Championship from 40 games, as he earned promotion into the Premier League for a third time, before a dismal three goals in 27 games. Fulham did only score a shocking 27 goals as a team that season, however.

Now, in his fourth promotion into the Premier League and off the back ofa record-breaking 43 Championship goals, surely things are set to be different.
