Everton recruitment team have a massive task on their hands this summer

In season 2022/23, Everton was unexpectedly sucked into the fight for Premier League survival. An incredible comeback from two goals down to seal a 3-2 win ensured the Toffees would avoid relegation from the English top-flight for another season.

The men from Merseyside experienced a poor campaign, and that was due to their squad lacking quality. One of their shining lights towards the end of last season was Brazilian international Richarlison.

However, the 25-year-old has agreed a move to Tottenham for a fee that could reach around £60million if add-ons are reached.

The move no doubt weakens Everton, but it at least helps the club's FFP situation, which hamstrung transfer dealings last summer.

The money situation means that director of football, Kevin Thelwell and head coach Frank Lampard now have room for manoeuvre in the transfer market.

However, they still have a big job on their hands, not just attempting to replace Richarlison but also to strengthen other weak areas of the team.

There are still several players whose futures are in doubt with the club. They should recoup money from sales and players on big wages on their exits.

The recruitment team still has to be creative in the transfer market, as there needs to be a balance in their dealings.

The Toffees are expected to unveil centre-back James Tarkowski as their first signing of the summer. The 29-year-old will arrive as a free agent following the expiration of his Burnley contract.

He has to be the first of many arrivals, but with finances still tight, the Everton recruitment team may have the most challenging job in the Premier League.

However, they must do their best to strengthen what was last season one of the worst teams in the English top flight.
