The 2022 UEFA European Women’s Championship is right around the corner. Between July 6 and 31, many of the world’s best female players will showcase their talents in England.
To get you in the mood for the tournament, here are five of the best players to keep an eye on at UEFA Women’s Euro 2022.
• Alexia Putellas, Spain
In 2021, Alexia Putellas became the first player ever to win the Ballon d’Or Feminin, The Best FIFA Women’s Player and UEFA Women’s Player of the Year Award in the same year. That tells you everything you need to know about her ability.
The 28-year-old racked up 33 goal involvements across all competitions during the 2021-22 season, firing Barcelona to the Primera Division title without a dropping a single point. She is destined to light up Euro 2022.
• Vivianne Miedema, Netherlands
Having netted a remarkable 92 goals in 110 international appearances, Vivianne Miedema is the Netherlands’ all-time leading scorer. She averages 0.85 goals per games for her country, so she is expected to score plenty of goals this summer.
Not only is Miedema the Netherlands’ record goalscorer, but she is also the Women’s Super League’s all-time top scorer. The sharp-shooter has bagged 74 goals in 89 WSL outings for Arsenal.
• Ada Hegerberg, Norway
Ada Hegerberg suffered an ACL injury in January 2020 before fracturing her tibia the following year. She finally made her long-awaited return in October 2021 and scored in Lyon’s Champions League final win over Barcelona.
The talented forward won the 2016 UEFA Women’s Player of the Year Award before finishing as the runner-up in 2018 and 2019. If she can redicsover her best form in England, Norway could go deep into the tournament.
• Pernille Harder, Denmark
Between 2018 and 2020, Pernille Harder won two UEFA Women’s Player of the Year awards and also finished as the Ballon d’Or runner-up. Since then, she has become one of Chelsea’s key performers.
Harder has won two WSL titles, two FA Cups and one League Cup with the Blues. On the international stage, she has scored 68 goals in 133 games for Denmark. She is arguably playing some of the best football of her career right now.
• Wendie Renard, France
Wendie Renard is a bona fide legend of women’s football. Since making her professional debut all the way back in 2006, the towering centre-back has won 14 Division 1 Feminine titles and eight Champions League crowns with Lyon.
The six-time FIFPro World XI inductee has yet to win the World Cup or European Championship with France. Could the French captain guide her country to glory this summer?
