Son hitting form at Tottenham
South Korean international Son Heung-Min has endured mixed fortunes during his Tottenham career so far. The 24-year-old joined the north London side from German club Bayer Leverkusen last summer for a fee of around £22million.
The move meant that Son was the most expensive player in the history of Asian football. He had impressed during his time in the Bundesliga with both Hamburg and Bayer before his big money transfer last summer.
He endured mixed fortunes last season as he was in and out of the starting eleven at the London club. Son produced seven goals and five assists in all competitions last season, which was a decent return for his debut campaign.
Son’s start to the current campaign was delayed due to his participation at the Olympic Games this summer. The attacking midfielder made his first appearance of the campaign against Stoke last weekend, scoring twice and producing an assist.
On Sunday afternoon he also produced a very lively display in Spurs 1-0 home win over Sunderland. He was a constant threat to the Black Cats defence and did everything apart from contributing to a goal.
If it was not for Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford’s superb display in goal then Son would probably have won the man of the match award.
Son faces major competition for a place in one of the three attacking midfield roles. Moussa Sissoko, Erik Lamela, Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli are all competing with Son for starts in his favoured positions.
However, Son has previously played as a central forward. The South Korean star may well be called upon to play in a more central attacking role for Spurs after England international Harry Kane sustained an injury in the win over Sunderland.
Whatever position that Son plays in for Tottenham it seems he is ready to impress for the side from north London and he may just begin to fulfil his immense potential for Mauricio Pochettino’s team.
