Moussa Sissoko must up his game at Tottenham
French international midfielder Moussa Sissoko joined Tottenham on transfer deadline day for a fee of around £30million from Championship Newcastle. The 27-year-old looked to be making a move to Everton, but Spurs nipped in at the last minute to seal the deal.
Sissoko impressed for host nation France at Euro 2016, as Les Bleus reached the final, only to lose 1-0 in extra-time against Portugal.
Despite his impressive displays for his country, his performances for much of last season for Newcastle were ineffective. The powerful midfielder has talent, but too often he would drift out of games for the Magpies.
He did pick-up seven assists and one goal, but as one of the Magpies star players, he was regarded as a player that did not give enough for the team. Tottenham is a team that will be expected to compete for the top-four in the Premier League at least this season.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side is also in the Champions League. The team from north London cannot afford for their French midfielder to disappear from games like he did for Newcastle last season. Spurs will need the Sissoko who played at Euro 2016, not the one that went missing for Newcastle.
Newcastle fans seem to be glad to see the back of Sissoko, which is not usually a good sign for the buying team. Moussa Sissoko has shown a poor attitude at times in his career in English football, but if he is to be a success in north London he will have to up his game and become far more consistent.
