On Wednesday night, Liverpool hammered Leeds United 6-0 in what could well be seen as a signal of intent in the now tight title race. The victory moved Jurgen Klopp’s team to within three points of leaders and reigning champions Manchester City.

Although he didn’t get on the scoresheet, January signing Luis Diaz produced another lively display for the Reds.

The 25-year-old worked hard as always and showed the sort of football acumen that a certain Roberto Firmino has built a career on at Anfield.

His early form on Merseyside suggests that he could well become another key player for Liverpool for years to come.

Some have hinted that he has been brought in to replace Egyptian superstar Mohamed Salah if the former Chelsea star doesn’t sign a new deal with the club.

At 25, he is a similar sort of age to Salah when he arrived on Merseyside. If he has even half the impact that the Egyptian has with Liverpool then he will have had a great career.

What has maybe been the most impressive aspect of Diaz so far has been the way he has settled so seamlessly into the Reds starting line-up.

It is almost like the Colombian international has been playing for the Merseysider’s for years, yet he has been at the club for less than a month.

At previous club Porto, Diaz looked like a potential star, he worked hard, scored and created goals, which is why Liverpool signed him.

However, it could have been so different if city rivals Everton would have found the finances to complete a deal for the winger.

That is ancient history and his early games for Liverpool already suggest that the Colombian international will be a smash hit on Merseyside.

The Reds recruitment department have done a stellar job in the past and it looks like they have picked up another gem at a bargain price by today’s transfer market standards.
