The second group of first leg Champions League games has concluded after another gripping set of European action that has seen three of the four ties end in a draw this week.

It now leaves everything to play for in the second leg games in a few weeks time and here’s everything that’s happened so far.

Villarreal v Juventus

Juventus thought they got off to the perfect start when they went 1-0 up inside the first two minutes when Dusan Vlahovic scored his first goal in the Champions League on what was his debut in the competition.

The Old Lady looked comfortable throughout the first half after scoring so early on, but it was Dani Parejo who managed to throw Villarreal back into the tie when he scored in the second half.

The game saw few chances other than these two goals, and Juventus now head back to Turin with a 1-1 scoreline where they will be the favourites to progress.

Chelsea v Lille

With draws happening elsewhere, three of the four English sides made relatively easy work of their first leg ties as Chelsea strolled past Lille at Stamford Bridge. Little was expected from Lille given their torrid defence of the Ligue 1 title this season, and the club had two shots on target all game long.

Kai Havertz would score within 10 minutes for the Blues, before Christian Pulisic added a second to give Chelsea a 2-0 lead heading to the home of the French champions in a few weeks.

Atletico Madrid v Manchester United

Atletico Madrid’s clash with Manchester United was arguably the toughest of the four fixtures this week to call, and the game proved to be just that too, as in reality, not much really separated them. It was in some ways a game of two halves as Atletico took the lead early on in the first, just as United saw many more chances come their way in the second 45, only to score with 10 minutes to go.

Anthony Elanga scored with his first touch for United as a sub, and it came after a stunning header from Joao Felix, which means a 1-1 scoreline heading into the second leg.

That game is likely to be equally as tense, tough to call, and close as it was in the first, as both sides look like the perfect match up for one another when it comes to creating a spectacle.

Benfica v Ajax

A lot of attention was on the shoulder of Sebastien Haller as Ajax travelled to Benfica on Wednesday as the striker had a remarkable 10 goals in the six group games heading into this one. Haller would be involved in two goals as he conceded an own goal before scoring one of his own to make it 11 in seven.

Dusan Tadic also scored for Ajax as Roman Yaremchuk got another for Benfica in what was arguably the game of the round in Portugal. Heading back the Netherlands though, the Amsterdam outfit will be the favourites despite the 2-2 scoreline.
