This season has been a calamity for Everton. Despite taking ten points from their opening four Premier League games the Toffees have lurched towards the relegation zone in recent months following a horrendous run of results.

Before the weekend 3-0 win over Leeds, the team seemed to lack confidence.

However, the arrival of Frank Lampard as head coach has lifted spirits amongst everybody connected with the club. The former Chelsea boss has been positive and the fans have responded.

However, even more importantly the players did with a stellar display on Saturday to gain a vital win.

Every single player worked their socks off and the fans made it the sort of atmosphere that couldn’t fail to inspire the players on the pitch.

Netherlands central midfielder Donny van de Beek in particular impressed alongside Allan in the Toffees engine room.

The Manchester United loanee is not necessarily known for his ability to win the ball back, but on several occasions, he harried and won the ball back for his team.

Nigerian international Alex Iwobi looked like a different player to the one who has not quite managed to find his top form in a blue shirt. He challenged, harried and showed commitment arguably never seen from the former Arsenal man in his time on Merseyside.

The performance and three points could be massive for Everton. Lampard’s team are now five points clear of the relegation zone, with two games in hand on 18th place Norwich.

Everybody connected with the club knows that there will be ups and downs this season, as Lampard himself has acknowledged.

However, in the last few weeks, the players have shown that they are better than their recent displays. If they continue to play as they did against Leeds, then the Toffees will be nowhere near the bottom three by the end of the season.

Then the Toffees head coach can get to work reshaping his squad.
