Everton need to be shrewd in the transfer market

Since the arrival of Farhad Moshiri as majority shareholder, Everton fans have been excited to see the impact of Moshiri and his promise of investment has on the team. Ronald Koeman as the team’s new boss added to excitement on Merseyside.

The Toffees have been linked with a host of new signings this summer, but the only arrival so far has been veteran Dutch goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg.

The latest player linked with a move to the Toffees is Sporting and Portugal midfielder William Carvalho, who had previously been linked with Arsenal and Manchester United. The midfielder is reported valued at £30million by his Portuguese club.

The defensive midfielder is regarded as one of the most promising players in his position in Europe. Signing the midfielder would be a coup for the Merseysiders.

Despite the club having money available to spend, Koeman has to be shrewd in the market, as the Everton squad needs a rebuild. Any club selling to the Toffees will now be aware that they have money to spend and may decide to up the price for their prize assets.

Koeman has been a shrewd operator in transfer market at previous clubs and at Southampton was known to pick-up bargain deals. The Dutchman has to do a similar thing on Merseyside, even if the club does have money to spend.

Evertonians are getting slight concerned that the Toffees have not made any big money signings, but the club will no doubt strengthen his squad this summer. However, Koeman cannot afford to splash the cash without properly assessing his squad properly first.
