Milan could return to glory in season 2021/22

AC Milan are one of the most historic institutions in the Italian game. In fact, the only Italian club that has been won more trophies than the Rossoneri are Juventus, who dominated Serie A for nearly a decade.

However, it has been over a decade since the Milan giants have won the Scudetto and it must have been hard for the club’s fans to see arch-rivals Inter claim the title in season 2019/20.

The last few seasons have seen an upturn in the Rossoneri’s fortunes, though.  As we stand Milan are top of the table, three points clear of second-place Napoli in the table.

The Azzurri host Bologna on Thursday night and can recapture the lead, but the pair look to be leading the chase for the Scudetto, with a generous gap to the rest of the teams at the top of Serie A.

Experienced head coach Stefan Pioli has masterminded Milan’s rise in recent years. The 56-year-old has done a stellar job in Milan, last season guiding the Rossoneri to runners-up spot in Serie A.

This season there is a belief they can go one better and end that long wait for a Scudetto.

The key to their good campaign seems to be a good balance between youth and experience within their squad. For example, in attack, they have the old heads of Olivier Giroud and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, combined with youngsters such as Brahim Diaz and Rafael Leao.

All four players have made contributions this season in Serie A already and will no doubt continue to contribute to their Serie A campaign.

Sometimes it is those little combinations that go into making a title-winning squad.

This season Milan looks very strong and if they can maintain consistency this time around, then they may be ready to end their decade-long wait for an Italian title.
