Arsenal still not at their best against West Brom

Arsenal defeated West Brom 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium on Thursday night in the Premier League. However in truth only Chilean forward Alexis Sanchez showed up and produced an impressive display.

The former-Barcelona star scored a brace to give the north London side what was a comfortable win in the end. However, a number of his teammates struggled to hit form, including France international Olivier Giroud and German international Mesut Ozil looked slightly off-colour.

There have long been question marks about Giroud’s ability to perform at the highest level for the Gunners and numerous players have been linked with the north London as a replacement for the former-Montpellier star.

The reason for Arsenal’s interest is that the French striker tends to put in a lot of under-par displays like the one against West Brom. He was maybe slightly unlucky not to score, but questions will be asked about the striker’s position once again this summer.

Ozil started the campaign in stellar form at his creative best, but his form has dipped in recent months, as has his team’s. The German international has produced six goals and 18 assists in the Premier League, but has only produced one goal in his last seven appearances.

The German was recently left out of the PFA Team of the Year, despite his creditable stats from earlier this season.

Arsenal fans will be hoping that everybody can stay fit and find form next season, because this season has been a major let down. The Gunners have underachieved and failed to win the Premier League title when they had a golden opportunity.

Next season it will be even tougher for Arsene Wenger’s side to challenge for the Premier League title, but unless the north London side signs more consistent players they are like to continue to underachieve.
