Barcelona discover top form in the nick of time
A lot of questions have been asked about Barcelona’s form in recent weeks with the Catalan giants being knocked out of the Champions League and suffered three consecutive defeats in La Liga.
However, the reigning Spanish champions answered their critics in emphatic style on Wednesday night as Luis Enrique’s side won 8-0 at Deportivo La Coruna. Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez scored four, with Ivan Rakitic, Lionel Messi, Marc Bartra and Neymar also getting on the scoresheet.
The win did little to enhance the Catalan giant’s title chances though, as both Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid also recorded midweek victories. However, after such a poor run of form the win and the manner of the win will have come as a great relief to Luis Enrique’s team and fans.
Win in at Deportivo saw Barcelona’s fantastic three of Suarez, Messi and Neymar all on the scoresheet once more. If the trio are in top form for the rest of the campaign then the Catalan giants should have enough firepower to stay top of La Liga and be crowned champions at the end of the campaign.
Real Madrid and Atletico will have been confident of catching Enrique’s side after Barcelona’s recent poor form. The two Madrid sides are both in good form, so the Spanish race looks set to go down to the wire this season.
Barcelona seems to have the most comfortable run-in for the rest of the campaign in the Spanish top-flight. However as we have seen in the major European leagues of late you have to expect the unexpected in title races.
